Design, Partnering, Management & Innovation (DPMI) is a Leadership certificate that prepares you for long-term development work in Africa, Asia, Latin America or anywhere else where there is extensive poverty, transitional government, or acute emergency.

DPMI uses a cross-sector approach, taking best practices from the development field and combining these tools with successful concepts drawn from the private sector.

Managing Development Projects - Participants learn about the project cycle and how to analyze project opportunities. They become proficient in the tools necessary to guide project design and monitoring and assessment.

Social Entrepreneurship and Strategic Partnering - Participants become proficient in the use of tools and techniques to conduct an analysis of vision and mission, identify core competencies, and forge strategic partnerships to enhance organizational effectiveness.

Facilitating Participatory Development - Participants master tools and skills needed to effectively assume the roles of facilitator, trainer, and change agent. The module focuses on local human resource development.

Monterey Summer Program: May 23-June 3, 2016
DC Summer Program: June 6-17, 2016
Kenya Summer Program: June 14-23, 2016

Partial scholarships are available to non-MIIS or Middlebury Students, email dmpi@miis.edu for details.

Program Fees

  • $2,500 for visiting participants
  • $500 for students enrolled at the Middlebury Institute or Middlebury College
  • Davis UWC scholars are fully funded for the Washington, DC session

The **Rwanda* and Kenya program fees include shared lodging and most meals:*

  • $2,500 for visiting participants
  • $1,500 for students enrolled at the Middlebury Institute or Middlebury College
  • $1,200 for an optional 1-week cultural immersion program prior to the Rwanda and Kenya trainings
